About Music and Performance Stools
Music and Performance Stools may have special requirements. For playing classical guitar, a stool needs to be able to support the musician so that the knee extends forward at a 90 degree angle to the body to provide a place to rest the guitar. In shopping for a stool, a guitar player may select the shortest standard height--an 18 inch stool, depicted here with a saddle stool on a rocker. A typical distance in drop from the seat to the place where the foot rests is 18 inches. So a short stool actually is the height of a standard chair. It just looks low because it doesn't have a back. Any of the Amish stools depicted here can be built to this height or any of the standard heights, or to a height for a custom order.
Observe that the relationship between the seat and the foot remains unchanged at 24 inches, the next standard height for a stool when the person's foot rests on the cross piece that steadies the legs of the stool. The same is true again with a 30 inch pub stool. It is designed so that, resting a foot on the cross piece between the legs of the stool again positions the knee at a 90 degree angle to the person's body. So selecting the height of the stool is related to whether you wish to balance your foot on the stool or on the floor, and whether you wish to sit at table height (18 inch stool), counter height (24 inch stool), or pub table height (30 inch stool).
This website is set up so that you are requested to select the stool height, the color of the wood finish, and choose your fabric, vinyl or leather. Enjoy! If you want something that you don't see, either email us first or place your order and indicate your request in a memo on the order form.
